Obituary of Nicholas F Larocca

Nicholas F. Larocca, 91, of Ocean passed away at peace surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, May 14th.

He was born to the late Rose Colucci and Frank Larocca in Corona, New York. Nicholas grew up in White Stone, Queens. At only 6 years old, he became a grocery delivery boy to help his family make more money, a first of what would be many jobs throughout his life.

Nicholas left high school at the end of his sophomore year to help his parents. At 17 years old, he volunteered to join the United States Army Air Corps to serve his country during World War II. Nicholas eventually became a weatherman for the Army after being recognized for his amazing ability with numbers and mathematics. He served in the Pacific Campaign, seeing the aftermath of the Japanese occupation of the Philippines as well as combat in the securing of Kwajalein Atoll.

Shortly after his service, he became a postman for over 13 years, he became involved with the Local Union and was elected as the President of the Flushing Postal Union. Nicholas negotiated with various historical figures during this time, VP Richard Nixon, Sen. Robert Kennedy, Sen. Hubert Humphrey to increase postal workers’ benefits.

Nicholas moved out of NY in 1961 to Montvale NJ where he married the love of his life Louise Abbatecola.  He had two sons Christopher and Matthew.  After his time in the post office, he worked for Curtis industries a company based in Ohio for 27 years, 26 of which he was the #1 Sales Representative, earning more than the President of the company, and would bring it up to him as often as he got the chance. After retirement, he moved to Long Beach Island, NJ.

In his later years, Nicholas moved down to the Cove Beach Club in Deerfield Beach, Florida where he became the President which he maintained for 8 years, and later became the Treasurer of finance.

He held many memberships including the Park Ridge Elks, Knights of Columbus, and the Manahawkin Italian American Club.

Nicholas is predeceased by his loving wife of 45 years: Louise Abbatecola; and his sister: Angela.

Surviving are his two sons: Christopher and his wife Nancy Larocca of Wayside, NJ, and Matthew and his wife Sylvia Larocca of Jarresttsville, MD; seven grandchildren: Christopher Jr., Nicholas, Daniel, Melissa, Douglas, Courtney, and Samantha; and many loving nieces and nephews.
